Fueling Morale
Engaging staff, connecting staff and recognising staff. The manifesto of Thelma Kortei, aspirant for Welfare Organising Secretary of the NPA Welfare Association.
Why I'm running
Welfare is something we should build together
For me, fueling morale is not simply about organising more events. It is about listening better, recognising our people and creating experiences that staff genuinely value.
NPA is a diverse workplace, with different age groups, interests and locations. A thriving welfare system should reflect that diversity by making our approach more responsive.
If welfare is for staff, then staff preferences should help shape welfare.
Proposal 1 of 3
You choose
Staff Interest Survey
- The opportunity
- Broader participation
I will champion a staff-driven approach to activity planning through a Staff Interest Survey. Instead of assuming, we will ask.
The survey will help us understand staff preferences and shape a more inclusive NPA Welfare Calendar of planned activities across regions.
The same survey can help identify pressing issues across all regions, so the association can set prioritised goals for the coming year.
Proposal 2 of 3
You speak; we listen
A stronger Welfare Feedback Loop
- The opportunity
- Better two-way communication
Welfare should not only speak to staff. Welfare must listen and interact with staff.
I will advocate for a simple, accessible Welfare Feedback Platform where staff can share views, suggestions and concerns at any time.
It can also be where staff rate our activities and tell Welfare what they enjoyed, what didn't work, and what we can do differently.
Proposal 3 of 3
Everyone belongs
A Staff Journal / Platform
- The opportunity
- Connection and recognition
Morale can grow when we intentionally celebrate one another and make sure good work doesn't go unnoticed. I will propose a Staff Journal to the Welfare Team for consideration.
It can connect staff nationwide and help us know colleagues beyond job titles: celebrate professional and personal milestones, share ideas and experiences, encourage healthy discussion, suggest practical improvements, and recognise positive culture champions.
It can also highlight brilliant minds, celebrate retirees, welcome new staff, and appreciate the internal heroes of the NPA.
My simple commitment
I will listen to your views, collaborate with regional reps to create valued experiences, learn from feedback, and use communication channels that help keep staff connected.
What we share
Different locations. Different generations. Different interests. One institution.
Welfare should create opportunities for staff across the NPA to take part and feel part of the same community.
